If you’re making beer, wine, cider, champagne or mead you need high quality homebrewing yeast. The question is, where do you buy it in Ireland? There’s no point in putting all that effort into brewing up a nice batch only to ruin it using low quality yeast, or even worse, baking yeast. That’s why the first products hooleyhomebrew.ie ever stocked was the full range of WHC Labs yeasts.
Why we Recommend WHC Labs yeast:
WHC Labs are a Wicklow based Irish Company. They do not mess around when it comes to making the highest quality yeasts. Their yeasts are used Internationally in Industrial Distilleries and Breweries. I had been using their distilling yeasts for 4 years before setting up hooleyhomebrew.ie. When it came time to get some yeast stock in, I thought why bother going halfway across the world to import yeast when there’s such a good company only down the road.
What we stock?
At hooleyhomebrew.ie we stock the full range of homebrewing yeasts.
· For Beer we have strains for 3 Strains for lagers (German, Crisp and Fast Ferment), 3 Strains for Ales (which can be used in stouts too) and 3 different types of IPA yeasts.
· For Wine, Cider, Champagne and Mead we have Lovely Bubbly. This stuff is savage. I know your probably thinking “Can one yeast really do all of them well?”. The answer is yes. It’s the strain EC118 which has been bred to cleanly ferment fructose and other sugars found in fruits and honey. If you don’t believe me, give it a go.
· For Distilling we have High Temperature Whiskey yeasts, a turbo sugar wash yeast and a rum yeast.
Do we stock any other brands of yeast?
We do repackage some yeasts into smaller or more manageable quantities but no, we don’t stock anything other than our core range. If we don’t have what you need then email us, but truth be told we don’t feel the need to stock 20 turbo yeast brands and 50 different wine yeasts or 100 different beer yeasts. Yes, we could have a Mangrove Jacks yeast and then a Fermentis and then a Lalvin in stock but they’re all the same and what we have is the best and it’s Irish (so that means it’s better again). If you want a specific strain then we recommend you shop somewhere else.
Where else sells yeast in Ireland?
The three big homebrew suppliers in Ireland all have great ranges. This is of course The Homebrew Company, Homebrew West and Get ‘er Brewed. You might still be able to find chemists like Molloy’s that stock some homebrew gear but there are always pros and cons to each option
