Northern Brewer Hop Pellets 100g

€4,95

Northern Brewer is a versatile dual-purpose hop that can be used for both bittering and flavour additions. It is particularly well known for its use in dark and traditional European beers, where it provides a firm bitterness alongside a distinctive herbal, woody and slightly spicy character.

Originally associated with the Hallertau region of Germany, Northern Brewer has developed excellent aroma qualities and remains a popular choice for brewers looking for a dependable hop that can work across a wide range of beer styles.

Similar & Substitute Hops

Northern Brewer can be replaced or complemented by other versatile hops with similar herbal, woody and spicy characteristics, including:

  • Challenger – English dual-purpose hop with herbal and spicy qualities
  • Perle – clean, slightly spicy and herbal German hop
  • Hallertau Mittelfrüh – softer, more delicate herbal and floral character
  • Nugget – stronger bittering hop with earthy and herbal notes

Beer Styles

Northern Brewer works particularly well in:

  • Altbier
  • Kölsch
  • Scotch Ale
  • Blonde Ale
  • Pale Ale
  • Porter
  • Stout
  • Belgian Tripel
  • Belgian Quadrupel
  • Other dark and malt-forward beers

It is particularly effective as a bittering hop, but can also be used later in the boil to contribute its characteristic herbal and slightly spicy hop character.
